About McTimoney
The McTimoney treatment, developed by John McTimoney in the 1950s, was initially for humans. Its effectiveness led to adaptation for animals in the 1970s.
Just like humans, animals can experience back, neck, and other musculoskeletal issues. A treatment using a combination of McTimoney chiropractic and soft tissue techniques can offer effective solutions to help alleviate their discomfort and improve their well-being.
McTimoney chiropractic is a holistic, gentle and non-invasive treatment which is appreciated and enjoyed by animals. The technique uses speed rather than force to realign and balance the body, allowing the nervous system to function optimally and encouraging muscular tension to release. I find the most effective way of working with this chiropractic technique is to use a range of soft tissue techniques alongside, to optimise the effectiveness of the treatment.
An important aspect of my treatment process is to work to help identify the possible causes of the issue rather than just treating symptoms. With regular treatments I can help to prevent compensations and the resulting issues from reappearing.
Before I can treat it is a legal requirement to seek permission to treat from the animal's Veterinary Surgeon under The Veterinary Act 1966. This means that the Vet must give their consent before the animal is treated.
In the majority of cases I will ask that the owner contact the vet directly. In certain situations, I may find it necessary to personally consult with the vet to address any concerns raised by either myself or the owner before proceeding with treatment.
Where appropriate, I regularly report back to vets about my findings and work closely with vets and other para professionals to ensure your animal gets the most out of the treatments I give.
